Updated Mask Guidance from CDC and State of Massachusetts

Jul 30, 2021

Thank you for your loyalty and support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The West Suburban YMCA continues to stay informed of the latest data and COVID-19 updates, both in our immediate community and across the country and globe.

As we observe the current trends in COVID-19 transmission data, we strongly advise ALL individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask when visiting the West Suburban YMCA, especially those who have a weakened immune system, are at increased risk for COVID-19 or live with someone at increased risk.

We feel it is necessary to provide this update in light of several recent news items, including the emergence of the Delta variant, the new recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention from July 27, 2021, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ new mask advisory released today (July 30, 2021).

Under our current policy, masks are required in the building for all unvaccinated individuals, our childcare and camp staff, children participating Y programs, and all children in the building between the ages of 5-11.

In addition, precautions continue to be taken to ensure the health and safety of our members and staff at our Y. This includes:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces with increased effort and frequency
  • Hand sanitizer stations and handwashing sinks prominently available for member use

  • Monitoring building flow and assisting with physical distancing in high traffic areas

  • Elevating staff awareness and establishing clear guidelines so that staff can help members stay healthy

This is an ever-evolving situation. As the health and safety of the Y is our top priority, we continue to monitor the data and CDC, state, and local recommendations and advisories.

Thank you for your patience and support as we collectively take the necessary precautions to keep our YMCA family and loved ones safe.
