City of Newton Indoor Mask Mandate beginning 9/2/2021

In light of the emergence of the highly contagious Delta Variant and its impact on our community, the city of Newton has imposed a mask mandate for indoor spaces starting Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Per the city of Newton's emergency order, our facility will begin requiring face masks for ALL who enter our building on Thursday, September 2nd.

Exceptions to the mask requirement include those who are in the pools and children under the age of 2 years.

The West Suburban YMCA continues to follow all CDC, state, and local guidelines and recommendations regarding face masks. At this time, this is the only change to our current COVID-19 policies and procedures.

Face Mask Policy

Beginning Thursday, September 2, 2021, the following Face Mask Policy will take effect:

  • ALL people, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a face mask or covering while inside the building. This policy aligns with the City of Newton's indoor mask mandate.
  • Exceptions include those who are in the pools and children under the age of 2 years old.

Reservation System

In response to the pandemic we implemented a reservation system to assist with capacity monitoring. As of September 2021, most offerings no longer require reservations. Please see below for a list of programs/offerings that still require reservations.

Reservations are only required for:

  • Family Swim
  • Squash/Racquetball Court
  • Virtual Classes (pre-registration via Zoom & current Y membership is required)

*Reservations are not required to attend indoor or outdoor group exercises.

Equipment, Layout, and Other Amenities

  • Equipment continues to be spaced at a comfortable distance and plexiglass dividers remain in place.
  • Whirlpool, steam room, and sauna are now open; please note that masks should not be worn in these areas, therefore appropriate social distancing and capacity limits must be followed.
  • Water fountains remain bottle-fill only.

Nationwide Membership

The nationwide reciprocity program at YMCAs in Massachusetts was paused in 2020 due to the pandemic. The West Suburban YMCA began accepting nationwide reciprocity again on July 1, 2021

Please note, many YMCAs across the country are not open to their full capacity, and safety regulations vary significantly in each community. If you plan to visit a YMCA that is not your home Y, it is recommended that you confirm policies at each facility in advance of arrival.

Our policies have been made with consideration of ALL the populations we serve. We ask that all members demonstrate the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility towards each other and our dedicated staff team.
