As a community, we’ve ALL been doing our part to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. In order to best prepare for your visit, please review the following information before visiting the West Suburban YMCA.

City of Newton Indoor Mask Mandate (effective 9/2/2021 onward)

In light of the emergence of the highly contagious COVID-19 variants and their impact on our community, the city of Newton imposed a mask mandate for indoor spaces that took effect Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Per the city of Newton's emergency order, our facility requires face masks for ALL who enter our building.

Exceptions to the mask requirement include those who are in the pools and children under the age of 2 years.

The West Suburban YMCA continues to follow all CDC, state, and local guidelines and recommendations regarding face masks.

Face Mask Policy

The following Face Mask Policy must be observed by all members, guests, and staff at the West Suburban YMCA.

  • ALL people, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a face mask or covering while inside the building. This policy aligns with the City of Newton's indoor mask mandate.
  • Exceptions include those who are in the pools and children under the age of 2 years old.

Not adhering to this policy may result in loss of Y privileges or suspension.

Reservation System

In response to the pandemic we implemented a reservation system to assist with capacity monitoring. As of September 2021, most offerings no longer require reservations. Please see below for a list of programs/offerings that still require reservations.

Reservations are only required for:

  • Family Swim
  • Squash/Racquetball Court
  • Virtual Classes (pre-registration via Zoom & current Y membership is required)

*Reservations are not required to attend indoor or outdoor group exercises.

Equipment, Layout, and Other Amenities

  • Equipment continues to be spaced at a comfortable distance and plexiglass dividers remain in place.
  • Whirlpool and sauna are now open; please note that masks should not be worn in these areas, therefore appropriate social distancing and capacity limits must be followed.
  • Water fountains remain bottle-fill only.

Nationwide Membership

The West Suburban YMCA accepts nationwide reciprocity.

Please note, many YMCAs across the country may not be open to their full capacity, and safety regulations vary significantly in each community. If you plan to visit a YMCA that is not your home Y, it is recommended that you confirm policies at each facility in advance of arrival.

Our policies have been made with consideration of ALL the populations we serve. We ask that all members demonstrate the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility towards each other and our dedicated staff team.
