Day Camp and Overnight Camp

YMCA Summer Camps

Camping has been at the heart of the Y’s mission for over a century. The West Suburban YMCA owns and operates three summer camps – Camp Pikati, Camp Chickami and Camp Frank A. Day – that keep kids engaged and safe all summer long, while creating friendships that can last a lifetime.

Summer Camp & COVID-19

In 2021, despite challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, we again operated a safe, successful, and fun camp season for hundreds of children at our day camps - Camp Pikati and Camp Chickami, and our overnight camp – Camp Frank A. Day. We redesigned our programs and updated our facilities to ensure the health and safety of our campers and staff. Some ways we mitigated risk included:

  • Staggered and contactless drop off/pick up
  • Operating a “closed” camp
  • Camper cohorts
  • Modified activities
  • Face coverings & other PPE
  • Emphasis on hand hygiene

Camp leadership at all three of our camps continue to monitor the pandemic situation and make plans accordingly for the 2022 camp season. While we don’t yet know exactly what summer 2022 will look like, we anticipate that some COVID-19 policies and strategies will change while others will remain in place as we look to provide the safest and most fun experience for our campers.
