West Suburban YMCA

When: 01/18/2021

Where: Your home

What: Virtual Day of Service in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr., Day

Why: Caring for our Community

Many seniors in our community have been isolated in their homes since COVID-19 broke out in March 2020. This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 18, 2021, the West Suburban YMCA is putting together care packages of succulents, a handmade item card or bookmark, and a puzzle book with a pencil, eraser, and sharpener for the clients of Newton At Home. These packages will brighten their homes, provide opportunities for mental stimulation, and connect us to our neighbors in safe and comforting ways.

How You Can Participate

Create a Card or Bookmark
If you would like to make one of the handmade cards and/or bookmarks the PDF templates are available below! We are asking for all cards and bookmarks to be returned to the West Suburban YMCA at 276 Church Street in Newton no later than January 24, 2021.

Sponsor a Care Package by Donating
If you wish to support this project in an entirely virtual format, please consider sponsoring a care package. Just $20 covers the cost of 1 care package and we are hoping to distribute over 150 care packages! To donate online, go to

Newton At Home (NAH) is a non-profit membership organization founded by a small group of Newton residents who wanted to build a community of friendship and support among older Newton residents. NAH offers a wide variety of vital services and social activities that help its members live safe, active, and connected lives in the places that mean the most to them: their homes and apartments, their neighborhood, and their city. As COVID-19 has made it unsafe for many of our community’s seniors to leave their homes, we are asking for your help to brighten up their spaces with these handcrafted care packages.
