Hello Y families! Here's a fun activity from our Preschool & Family Services Director, Tricia Mansfield. Make some homemade play dough! All you need are a few simple ingredients.

Materials

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/3 cup salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Food coloring

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients, except food coloring, in a medium saucepan.
  2. Cook over low/medium heat, stirring. Once mixture begins to thicken, add food coloring.
  3. Continue stirring until the mixture is much thicker and begins to gather around the spoon.
  4. Once the dough is not wet, remove and put onto wax paper to cool for 30 minutes.
  5. After cooling, knead dough for a few seconds.
  6. PLAY!

BONUS FUN: Roll your play dough into worms or snakes and use googly eyes or buttons as eyes!

Use your homemade play dough over and over again by storing in an airtight container in the fridge for future playtime.
