Compose an Acrostic Poem
Apr 16, 2020
Vertical Tabs
Did you know April is National Poetry Month? Here's a great activity for the whole family: Compose an Acrostic Poem!
An acrostic poem is a poem where certain letters in each line spell out a word or phrase. Acrostic poems are perfect for first time poets! Write your name vertically and select positive words that begin with each letter. Use words that best describe you, and get creative! Here's an example from our Preschool and Family Services Director, Tricia Mansfield:
Thoughtful
Respectful
Inquisitive
Caring
Imaginative
Adventurous
You can add to the activity by drawing a self-portrait to go along with your poem.
Share your acrostic poems with us by posting on social media and tagging the West Suburban YMCA.
