New Year Resolutions - Set Yourself Up for Success

It’s the beginning of 2017 – a new year and a new you, right? This is the year you’re going to get healthy and happy: eat clean, workout every day, lose weight, and be more assertive and stronger than ever before. THIS IS YOUR YEAR!

Why are we all under so much pressure to change everything about ourselves from December 31st to January 1? What makes that two day period the time to change everything from what you were to what you strive to be.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to have goals and aspirations. In fact, it’s important to set reachable goals often and throughout the year; not just on January 1st. Typically sticking to New Year’s Resolutions don’t last very long because the goals that are set are highly lofty and unachievable; therefore you are setting yourself up to fail.

This new year, set yourself up for success.

  • Establish measurable small goals often. Rather than being overwhelmed that you need to lose 50 lbs, strive to lose for a 5 pounds at a time.

  •  Stay realistic with your goals. Instead of insisting that  you are  going to go to the gym for 2 hours every day, aim to get there  3 times per a week for 45-60 minutes.

  • Remember, it’s ok if you mess up.  If you aren’t successful one day, try again tomorrow. The all or nothing principle is not going to help you. You don’t have to wait for an entire year to start again
