President's Newsletter - June 2017
Dear Friends,
Last month, the West Suburban YMCA celebrated 140 years of history in the city of Newton with members, staff, volunteers and donors at our Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner.
Celebrating our accomplishments of 2016, we also introduced our 2017-2018 Board of Directors, including new board members and our officer positions, while thanking outgoing board members for their dedication to our Y.
Gloria Gavris, was elected as the Board's Chair after previously serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Annual Fund. An attorney and retired lobbyist on Beacon Hill, Gloria is an active volunteer and consultant for community and youth related causes and is a current member of the Newton Licensing Commission.
"As a volunteer led organization, the Y benefits from talented, committed individuals from the community who ensure we are fulfilling our mission. Gloria has an excellent track record of leadership driven by her passion for our community and helping others. I am excited to partner with Gloria in her new role as Chair along with our entire volunteer Board of Directors to strengthen our community," said Y President & CEO Jack Fucci.
Also elected as Board Officers were Vice Chair Jeff Tucker, Sr. VP at Village Bank, and Newton residents Robert Arrieta, Managing Director at J.P. Morgan Chase, and Robert Bachman, of Fidelity Investments, as Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer respectively, and as Clerk, Janice Rodgers, retired Director of Corporate Compensation for Partners Healthcare System.
The West Suburban YMCA also welcomed three new Directors to its board: Newton residents Max de Groen, Principal of Bain Capital Private Equity; Fred Greene, Vice President at CRG Realty; and Ellen Grody, Sr. Project Manager at Brigham Women's Hospital.
Together with Y staff, the Board is developing a strategic plan that will chart the course for the Y's response to the ever-changing community's needs while remaining steadfast in our commitment to ensure our doors are open to all.
Thank you for your continued support.
